Civil surveying is an engineering operation that involves assessing and recording details about an area of land. These observations can then be used to help plan construction projects.The main purpose of surveying in civil engineering is to determine the three-dimensional relationships between different locations. Knowing information like the distances and angles between points and lines helps engineers determine how to draw up plans for public buildings, homes, roads, bridges and a variety of other construction and infrastructure projects.The points that engineers measure are often located on the surface of the earth, though they can also be located in space. Because intricate, precise spatial relationships and boundary lines are so integral to this process, civil surveying draws on aspects of different disciplines, from mathematics to geography to law.Civil surveying also involves specific equipment and GPS data acquired from satellites. High-precision electromechanical and optical equipment is also a necessity for ensuring measurements are accurate.This course is focused on developing the skills needed to accurately measure land, air and water space. This course program includes extensive field practice in the use of electronic and optical instruments used for measuring distance, elevations and angles from one point to another.In this context, our students experience live work on latest equipment such as lite auto level GPS, total station electronics laser, and lite DTSA.

Surveyor Duties and Responsibilities

Surveyors use evaluation and problem-solving skills to complete the required job tasks. Surveyors have the following responsibilities:

Use measurements of surveying equipment to determine property lines and boundaries

Research additional information about a property through titles, survey records and land records

Present land information and details to new property owners or investors

Settle legal disputes regarding property ownership

Record accurate property lines and plots with the local land use authorities

A Surveyor, or Property Surveyor, is responsible for measuring property lines and surveying properties.
