This lecture is a manufactures course required for certification of hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) systems for passenger cars and light trucks. The history of battery technologies will apply charging and repair techniques from first generation to present day EVs. EV technologies have evolved rapidly,requiring different methods of service for each new generation and system version. High voltage systems are dangerous. Proper safety procedures for hybrid and EV systems are required and emphasized. This course uses actual hybrids and EVs to perform electrical and electronic diagnosis of various systems. Students must have prerequisite knowledge and skill certifications of automotive electronics prior to enrolling in this course. This course is complemented by AUTO 264L Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Operation and Diagnosis Laboratory and AUTO 264T Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Operation and Diagnosis Assessment Test Out.
A study of HEV (hybrid electric vehicles) and EV (electric vehicles). Safety procedures will be strongly emphasized. Vehicle systems that will be covered: Hybrid safety and service procedures, introduction to hybrid batteries and service, introduction to hybrid electric motors, generators, and controls, regenerative braking systems, introduction to hybrid vehicle transmissions and transaxles, hybrid vehicle heating and air conditioning, first responder safety and procedures, introduction to manufacturer scan tools, hybrid vehicle diagnostic trouble codes.
This practical Professional Certificate in Servicing and Repairing Hybrid & Electric Vehicles provides participants with theoretical knowledge on vehicle electrification, as well as the practical skills needed to service Hybrid Electric Vehicles / Electric Vehicles (HEV/EV), with a focus on HEVs. Practical sessions will include the use of test instruments and stripped down HEV/EV components.
