IELTS Preparation Course in Abbotabad

This programme is for students over the age of

16 and is suitable for students who wish to

prepare for an internationally recognised IELTS

Test.

Our courses aim to increase students’

understanding of and sensitivity towards other

cultures.

They also aim to help students develop the

study skills that will enable them to continue to

learn English after their course as part of a

broader educational process that equips

students for lifelong learning.

It is comprehensive and

academically rigorous. The IELTS course puts equal weight on

reading writing, listening, speaking and test taking strategies. The

course also covers sub skills such as academic vocabulary,

academic style and study skills each day.

The lessons cover both examination skills and

techniques and work on improving all aspects

of the students’ English: speaking, listening,

reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation and

vocabulary.It includes the teaching of test practice strategies

skills for all areas of the IELTS exam.

Course Objectives

The primary objective of the course is to help

students to achieve a good result in the IELTS

Test. This is done by:

1. Training students in the skills and

techniques they will need to perform well in

the different parts of the exam

2. Helping students to improve the level of

their English through a combination of

language input and practice activities in

the four skills of listening, speaking,

reading and writing

COURSE OUTLINE:

Reading: skimming and scanning for general or specific

information (e.g. data/statistics, facts); processing information from

academic and authentic sources (magazines, journals and the

internet), logical organisation of information.

Writing: (task one) interpreting and comparing data; describing

tables, objects, graphs and processes; (task two) stating and

developing arguments/opinions; problem-solving; presenting

information logically, coherently and cohesively; paragraph

mapping—introduction, body of ideas and conclusion; sequencers

and signaling devices; proof–reading/editing work as part of drafts.

Speaking: providing information in a formal interview context;

giving an extended talk on a given topic; taking part in a formal

discussion; giving a formal presentation/report.

Grammar: language required for describing graphs and diagrams

including comparatives and superlatives, the passive voice.

Vocabulary Topics: develop vocabulary connected with the most

common IELTS topics, such as the Environment, Science and

Technology, Health, Energy, Education, Transport, The Arts, Media,

and Urbanisation.

Listening: extracting information from texts of varying lengths

e.g. university lectures, radio interviews, radio documentaries,

conversations; learning what information to look for and what to

exclude.
