A study of HEV (hybrid electric vehicles) and EV (electric vehicles). Safety procedures will be strongly emphasized. Vehicle systems that will be covered: Hybrid safety and service procedures, introduction to hybrid batteries and service, introduction to hybrid electric motors, generators, and controls, regenerative braking systems, introduction to hybrid vehicle transmissions and transaxles, hybrid vehicle heating and air conditioning, first responder safety and procedures, introduction to manufacturer scan tools, hybrid vehicle diagnostic trouble codes.
The content of this qualification has been designed to give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high energy/electrical system.
The Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance Course is designed to provide participants with the necessary skills to maintain hybrid vehicles and to know the concepts of engineering of hybrid and electric vehicles and the applications related to hybrid systems such as types of batteries and engines. The participants will also be provided with practical and applied skills in specialized laboratories and workshops.

The history of battery technologies will apply charging and
repair techniques from first generation to present day EVs. EV technologies have evolved rapidly,
requiring different methods of service for each new generation and system version. High voltage
systems are dangerous. Proper safety procedures for hybrid and EV systems are required and
emphasized. This course uses actual hybrids and EVs to perform electrical and electronic diagnosis of
various systems. Students must have prerequisite knowledge and skill certifications of automotive
electronics prior to enrolling in this course.
Participants will explore the technology applied in current automotive trend. Hands-on activities make the training livelier and more valuable. Selection of proper tools and various troubleshooting and diagnostic method will enrich participants’ skills.
